A New Home

In the coastal town of Ardrossan, Scotland, there is a Muslim population that has no facilities for prayer or a place to unite for any religious activity.

Currently, the Muslim population in Ardrossan only have access to a small space in a church building which they can only use once a week for Friday prayers. Some have not been able to pray obligatory prayers in a masjid (mosque) for as long as eight years! Sometimes they have to travel for three or four hours to go to a masjid.

The AFECC team seeks to re-create the success of programmes and community initiatives they run on-site in Glasgow, in this new Ardrossan branch.

Serve the Community

Mosques are more than a prayer spaces. AFECC Ardrossan will aim to operate…

  • Educational activities: Islamic arts & religious studies for Muslim children and the youth, designated communal areas for study, meditation and contemplation equipped with WI-FI zones.
  • Youth groups: sports activities such as bike club, health & wellbeing support such as counselling, community clean-ups and volunteering etc.
  • Social activities: A food bank facility for local families in need, AFECC Mothers and Toddlers group, coffee morning events and social dinners for the elderly, all open to the wider community.
